Contribute to climate resilience


Reduce CO2 emissions by 28% eq¹ in scopes 1 and 2

Environment - Carbon

In 2021/2022, we reduced our CO₂ emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 4.6% compared to the baseline, explained by the lower movement of ships to transport products, given the fluctuation in the harvest and the reduction in the use of intensive agricultural inputs in carbon.

The climate emergency is one of the great challenges of our time. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is the first step in contributing to climate resilience.

Citrosuco acts with transparency in this agenda, publishing GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission inventories accredited by a third party on platforms such as the GHG Protocol, having achieved the Silver Seal of performance.

Faced with a commitment to reduce emissions by 28% in scopes 1 and 2 by 2030, we have approved our decarbonization pipeline for 2030. We are already intensifying the use of renewable energy beyond the current 65% and prioritizing low carbon intake in the production process, in addition to other practices. With our orange orchards, we contribute directly to the removal of carbon from the atmosphere, capturing about 300,000 Ton CO₂ per year according to the GHG Forests tool.

As a reflection of our climate maturity, we achieved the A- score in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) and were one of the 40 companies in Brazil to submit the climate commitment in the SBTi (Science Based Target Initiative). We prioritize dwell goals for scopes 1 and 2, but as chain leaders we know of our role in stimulating the reduction of emissions in scope 3.

  4. In its trajectory Citrosuco has already removed a volume of CO₂ eq from the atmosphere. However, for the purposes of the target and due to methodological availability, the removals will be accounted for asn of 2021 in the company's orchards.

Promote biodiversity


Structured biodiversity conservation projects for 100% of hectares for environmental protection

Environment - Biodiversity

In 2021/2022, we expanded our project activities in conservation hectares, reaching 14 of the 25 farms

The active development of our green areas enables sustainable coexistence with our agricultural production system. We manage more than 19,100 hectares destined for the conservation of fauna and flora, distributed among the biomes of the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest.

In 2022, we expanded our CitroApis project to 14 farms, acting in an integrated way between honey production and orange orchards. In addition, we completed our faunistic and floristic diagnosis on 25 farms, enabling an in-depth look at the biodiversity already existing in our operations.

Since 2018, we have been proactively working on wild animal sighting projects and developing the chain of bees in coexistence in our orchards, promoting a more sustainable ecosystem. We protect the surroundings of springs, rivers, and lakes that play a key role in biodiversity and water resources.

For 2030, we are committed to intensifying the development of structured projects for 100% of the hectares destined for environmental protection, strengthening our positive impact.

Rationally manage water resources


Increase water use efficiency in industrial operation by 20% (m³/ton).

Rationalize water collection in 100% of critical watersheds, contributing to increased water availability to stakeholders.

Baseline 2020: Annual granted capture of 40 million m³ in 8 selected farms of critical watershed regions;

Environment - Water

In 2021/2022, we reached 1.9m³/ton of use of water resources in our operations, representing an evolution compared to the baseline through process optimization.

In 2021/2022, we approved the investment in three mega water reservoirs that will make it possible to rationalize water volumes in the next harvest.

Water is an essential good to our planet, nourishing life. It is with the fundamental participation of water that we give flow to the positive impact through our business. More than 80% of Citrosuco's water consumption is concentrated in the irrigation of farms, depending on climate conditions in the regions in which we operate.

The efficient drip system takes water and nutrients straight to plant roots. In order to ensure even more rationality of resources in this process, we approved the implementation of 4 mega reservoirs in regions of water criticality.

In our 4 industries located in Brazil and the United States, technological investments allow water treatment and reuse, strengthening the recirculation of more than 900,000 m3 of water resources in recent harvests.

The 2021/2022 status still does not reflect the rationalization management process in agricultural operations, given that the new assets will start operating in the next harvest, enabling monitoring.

As a result of this water efficiency process, in 2022 we have already reduced from 2.3m3/ton to 1.9m3/ton the use of water in production processes directly linked to core business.

For 2030, we will ensure even more rationality in the capture of water resources in agricultural operations, through the operation of reservoirs and management actions around watersheds.¹

In our factories, we will increase the efficiency of water use, through monitoring and technology, ensuring lower resource consumption.

Drive social transformation


Reduction of greater social vulnerability in 100% of the prioritized territories where we operate (10 territories)

Baseline (2020): 16 territories of operation with +15 projects focused on Education, Citizenship, and strengthening of public policies, totaling more than R$ 2 million in annual investment. Structurally we started operating in priority territories

Social - Social Management

In 2021/2022, we started the journey of prioritizing territories to concentrate private social investment and launched the Empreende Program in the Itapetininga-SP pilot, which addresses the main identified social vulnerabilities

Acting in the socioeconomic development of the communities where we operate is part of our legacy of positive impact. In 2022, we identified and prioritized social vulnerabilities in a pilot in the region of Itapetininga-SP, site of one of our largest farms. This movement is now being expanded to priority territories.

In 16 territories of influence, we have already developed a trajectory with 27 social investment projects, allotment with partners more than R$ 3 million per year to address local vulnerabilities, including: educational programs, protection of children's and adolescents' rights, public health, among others.

The main projects are: PVE - Partnership for the Valorization of Education;Projeto Pescar - professional initiation of young people; Citizenship Program - promotion of Political Education; Public Management Support - qualification of public health management; Empreende program - fostering economic dynamism and income generation.

For 2030, we will act to reduce the greatest social vulnerability identified in 100% of the prioritized territories. We will develop integrated interventions through social and impact investment, in synergy with public policies, local vocations and ecosystem actors of each territory.

Promote diversity, equality, and inclusion

In 2021/2022, we reached 19% of women and black people in leadership positions, representing an evolution compared to the baseline.

People bring our purpose to life.

Aiming at greater representation in our leadership, in 2022 we reached 19.3% of women and blacks in supervisory positions and above in various business teams.

We have made great progress in the inclusion of people with disabilities and have hundreds of people with disabilities included in our environment, and by 2022 about 22% already demonstrate career evolution.

Our work in diversity dates back to 2015 with the creation of the Program Para Todos, in which we work on themes and actions on the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. For 2030, we are committed to expanding opportunities, and access to leadership positions reaching at least 30% representativeness.

This program will be fostered by leadership and awareness and engagement campaigns, added to the constant review of processes and practices.

Lead a sustainable value chain


100% sustainable fruit supply (own fruit and third parties).

Corporate Governance - Value Chain

In 2021/2022, we reached 68% of sustainable fruit supply, representing an evolution compared to the baseline.

Citrosuco already operates 100% of its 25 own farms certified according to SAI platform gold level, acting in accordance with the most robust international agricultural practices.

As a result of cooperation with the producer value chain, in 2022 we reached 68% of certified sustainable fruit.

Our sustainable chain journey dates back to 2016, the year we created the Trilhar Program, which aims to strengthen the relationship with our fruit suppliers and disseminate the best sustainability practices.

An important step on this path was the commitment made in 2020 to the Sustainable Juice Covenant (SJC), a global pact that aims to ensure 100% of the sustainable value chain by 2030.

In 2022, we were elected to join the Executive Committee of the SJC, working with other global companies. We will continue to evolve in the face of our 2030 commitment through promotion, articulation, and partnerships to enable sustainability certifications in partner producers.
